Airport Expansion Project

  • The older part of the terminal building was constructed in 1985 and was built to handle a peak passenger volume of about 140 passengers. This airport's peak passenger volume has significantly increased in the last 20 years, and this new expansion will now handle twice as many passengers at peak volume.

  • From the time of this facility's early beginnings in the late 1920s, it has grown and developed into an airport of international status that Yukoners are very proud of.
  • The additional space provides enhanced operations for our increasingly busy airport.
    This investment demonstrates our commitment to developing Yukon infrastructure that is required to realize our full economic potential.

Some of the features of this new expansion include:

  • 2767 square metres of additional space;
  • 230 person in-transit lounge;

  • a new and larger luggage carousel;

  • an oversized freight and passenger elevator;
  • additional office space for airport staff; and
  • a generous space for Canada Customs Agency to process international travellers.

The additional space for Canada Customs Agency improves the ability to process international passengers more efficiently and the additional space will provide a more comfortable wait time for visitors.

PDF blueprints of the expansion can be accessed below:

Anatomy of our Airport

The new addition streamlines international travelers experience with Canada Border Services Agency and meets requirements for transiting passengers and it also enhances our ability to handle multiple/simultaneous domestic flight arrivals and departures.

Pay parking is now in effect. Acquire a parking ticket from the dispensing machine at the gate entrance. Please park in designated areas only. Drive safely and watch for pedestrians. Validate and pay the fee at kiosks located inside the terminal building waiting area. Payment may be made with cash or credit card. If you validate your parking ticket at one of the terminal building kiosks, you have 30 minutes grace to exit the parking lot. Payment may also be made at the exit gates; however, the exit gates accept only credit card payments. Parking fees are $1.50 per day. Remember, the first hour of parking is free!
