Children's Receiving Home under construction

November 10, 2009


Yukon government photo: Senator Daniel Lang and Minister of Health and Social Services Glenn Hart launch the construction of the new Children's Receiving Home.

The Children’s Receiving Home is a temporary home for children and youth who have been removed from their families because of abuse or neglect, and who need a period of assessment and stabilization.

The new downtown Whitehorse facility will be 4,200 square feet. The $799,000 federal contribution to the project comes through Canada’s Economic Action Plan, the government’s plan to stimulate the economy and create jobs during the global recession.

Olympic Flame comes to Yukon

November 4, 2009


Government of Yukon photo: Premier Dennis Fentie greeted the Oympic Flame and torchbearer William Callaghan when it stopped at the Legislative Assembly on its way through Whitehorse.

The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games Torch Relay stopped in Whitehorse, Old Crow and Dawson City on November 3-4 before continuing across the country.
