WHITEHORSE – Premier Dennis Fentie announced today the appointment of Catharine Read as the Public Service Commissioner.
“Ms. Read brings extensive public service experience to the position,” Fentie said. “Her career shows progressively increased responsibilities in both the public and private sectors. We look forward to her joining the Yukon government.”
Read’s public service career encompasses program and policy work, governance, organization and business development, negotiations and treaty transition management, strategic planning, highways operations and maintenance, agriculture, tourism and culture, and information technology. She has worked for the governments of Yukon, British Columbia, Canada and the Cayman Islands.
From 1990 to 1992 Read served as the assistant deputy minister in the Yukon government’s Executive Council Office.
Since 2005 Read has owned and operated a business specializing in governance, negotiations, planning and policy development and programs and services analysis. Her qualifications include an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Alberta and a Master of Arts in Economics from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.
Read’s appointment is effective September 1. She succeeds Patricia Daws who has retired.
