WHITEHORSE – The Yukon government has signed an agreement with the Public Service Commission of Canada to provide second language evaluations for its employees.
This agreement allows the Yukon government to access the federal Public Service Commission’s standardized language skills assessment services to determine the linguistic levels of employees while they are learning French, or those of prospective employees who are competing for bilingual positions.
“The provision of objective linguistic testing is an important step in measuring the results of the government’s investment in French language training, while providing employees with the status of their progress. This agreement is an important component in addressing the French speaking community’s request for more front-line services,” Minister responsible for the French Language Services Directorate Glenn Hart said.
“I believe this initiative will enhance Yukon government employees’ skills and therefore offer job enrichment opportunities throughout the Public Service sector,” Minister responsible for the Public Service Commission Patrick Rouble said. “Moreover, it will assist in the recruitment of bilingual staff.”
The Public Service Commission will administer testing.
