Carcross/Tagish First Nation Receives Grant for Child Care

WHITEHORSE – A contribution of $300,000 has been made to Carcross/Tagish First Nation (CTFN) to assist with the building of a new child care centre in Carcross, Health and Social Services Minister Glenn Hart announced today.

“This government is moving ahead to help CTFN meet growing needs for quality child care in this rural Yukon community,” Hart said. “The Child Care Capital Development Fund is providing the funding.”

The Child Care Capital Development Fund is available to First Nations, municipalities and child care centres or family day homes to create new or enhance existing child care spaces.

“This funding will benefit the entire Carcross community,” Southern Lakes MLA and Education Minister Patrick Rouble said. “I am glad to see recognition by this government of the needs of the rural child care community.”

“The Carcross/Tagish First Nation is pleased to be cost-sharing with the Yukon government in building a new child care centre to serve all residents of the Carcross area,” Khà Shâde Héni, Mark Wedge said. “This new daycare will provide children with a solid foundation on which to build a lifetime of continued learning.”
