Government Puts $63,908 Into Community Youth Projects

WHITEHORSE – Yukon youth will benefit from 22 projects sharing $63,908 from the Youth Investment Fund this fall.

The successful projects were announced today by the ministers of the fund’s sponsoring departments: Minister responsible for the Youth Directorate Premier Dennis Fentie; Education Minister Patrick Rouble; Health and Social Services Minister Glenn Hart; Justice and Women’s Directorate Minister Marian C. Horne and Community Services Minister Archie Lang.

The projects cover the breadth of Yukon and a wide variety of activities including youth camps, physical programs and cultural events.

“These projects represent an important investment into our most valuable resource, our youth,” Premier Fentie said.

The Youth Investment Fund supports community-driven initiatives aimed at addressing the needs of Yukon youth. Many of the projects are designed to help youth susceptible to “at risk” behaviours or those who are considered to be “at risk.”

Since the inception of the fund in 1995, 459 projects have been funded. The next deadline for applications is April 1, 2009.
