Yukoners Encouraged to Support One Million Acts of Green Campaign
WHITEHORSE – Environment Minister Elaine Taylor and Education Minister Patrick Rouble encourage Yukoners to join in the national challenge One Million Acts of Green aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The One Million Acts of Green campaign was launched last week by CBC’s The Hour and asks Canadians to commit “acts of green” such as recycling, walking to work or composting.
“Reducing our carbon footprint is everyone’s responsibility,” Taylor said. “We encourage all Yukoners to participate. Changing our daily habits will have a considerable impact on reducing our greenhouse gas emissions, from washing clothes in cold water to turning off appliances when not needed.”
“Schools are one of the best venues to learn about and practise the ways in which we can take responsibility for our environment,” Rouble said. “I encourage all students, teachers and parents to take up this challenge.”
The Yukon government supports a number of home improvement programs designed to help Yukoners reduce their carbon footprint.
Participants have the opportunity to register their acts of green on an interactive website, www.onemillionactsofgreen.com/, which will calculate the environmental impact of their acts.
