Government Hosts Labour Market Framework Symposium
WHITEHORSE – The Department of Education is hosting a Labour Market Framework Symposium in Whitehorse today.
Representatives from key labour market stakeholders from across the territory—including all levels of government, First Nations, as well as business and industry interests and non-government organizations—are involved.
“The Yukon government is working cooperatively on a number of initiatives with the business community, industry, educational institutions and other governments in order to address labour issues,” Patrick Rouble, Minister of Education, said. “By working together we will ensure that we have the right programs in place to meet the needs of Yukoners and Yukon economic opportunities.”
The symposium is an opportunity for stakeholders to gather and discuss key topics that will guide the development of five Labour Market Strategies: the Comprehensive Skills and Trades Training Strategy, Immigration Strategy, National Recruitment Strategy, Employee Retention Strategy, and Labour Market Information Strategy.
“These long-term strategies will help ensure Yukon has a strong, adaptable workforce now, and in the future,” Rouble added.
After the symposium, the comments gathered from participants will advise the interdepartmental Labour Market Framework Working Groups in developing the five strategies.
