Consultation Begins as Part of the Review of the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act
WHITEHORSE – Consultation on proposed amendments to the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (ATIPP) are underway, Highways and Public Works Minister Archie Lang announced.
“The Government of Yukon is committed to reviewing the ATIPP Act to improve access to information while ensuring the protection of personal information held by public bodies,” Lang said.
The proposed amendments include:
• clarifying the definition of a public body;
• broadening the scope of the Act to include organizations currently not covered by territorial or federal legislation;
• adding a clause requiring a regular review of the Act; and
• addressing processes for mediations, reviews and inquiries.
The consultation period begins today and will end on December 15 of this year. The ATIPP Office will conduct a targeted mail out of the consultation document to stakeholders who are familiar with the Act and have an interest in the proposed amendments. Copies of the consultation document are available at the main desk and the ATIPP Office, both located in the Yukon government’s Main Administration Building.
“Access to information is a right all Yukoners enjoy and I’m looking forward to the result of the consultation,” said Lang.
