Taylor to Attend Ministers of Culture and Heritage Meeting
WHITEHORSE - Tourism and Culture Minister Elaine Taylor will be attending the meeting of Provincial and Territorial Ministers responsible for Culture and Heritage in Quebec City this week.
Agenda items for discussion include issues of common interest for collaboration in the built heritage sector in Canada, youth engagement in the cultural sector and the impact of new technologies on cultural policies. A roundtable discussion regarding the Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad is also on the agenda.
"The cultural sector in Yukon is extensive, vibrant and makes a significant contribution to Canada's cultural identity," Taylor said. "Programs that support training, development, networking, export, marketing and promotion are especially important to the cultural sector."
"Collectively, we will have the opportunity to speak to the successes and challenges facing Canada's cultural sector and how we as governments can work together to ensure arts and culture remains an important contributor to the social and economic well being of our country," added Taylor.
Quebec Minister of Culture, Communications and Status of Women, Christine St-Pierre, will host the Culture and Heritage Ministers' meeting in Quebec City on September 25-26.
