Innovation Ministers Discuss Leadership, Research Enterprise
WHITEHORSE – At the meeting of Ministers responsible for Innovation, Economic Development Minister Jim Kenyon and his counterparts discussed ways to improve Canada's innovation performance, build a national innovation system, and the state of venture capital funding in Canada.
"The ministers agreed that innovation has become a major driving force in economic growth and social development," Kenyon stated. "Cooperation to promote innovation at all levels of government, the private sector, and academia will only serve to enhance Canada's quality of life and economic prosperity."
As part of the three-day meeting in Stratford, Ontario last weekend, Kenyon provided an update on Yukon's key innovation highlights which include the Yukon Cold Climate Innovation Centre, the Climate Change Research Centre of Excellence, and the Yukon Technology Innovation Centre.
"My colleagues were very interested in Yukon's current initiatives, as they represent a commitment to sustainable communities and economies that support, and are supported by, a knowledge-based sector.
These projects support research, either academic or applied, and it is through these projects that Yukon government is contributing to the growth of a knowledge-based economy," Kenyon added.
