QUEBEC CITY - Yukon has signed a cooperation and exchange agreement that will strengthen the territory's ties with Quebec, Minister responsible for the French Language Services Directorate Glenn Hart announced today.
The second cooperation and exchange agreement with respect to Francophonie was signed with Quebec Minister Benoît Pelletier, responsible for Canadian Intergovernmental Affairs, Aboriginal Affairs and Francophones within Canada, at the start of the Ministerial Conference on the Canadian Francophonie.
"This new agreement is testimony to a mutual desire to pursue our partnership and strengthen our ties," Hart said. "This renewed partnership between the province of Quebec and Yukon will contribute to the development and vitality of the French language and Francophone cultures, as well as the growth of Yukon's French-speaking community."
The initial partnership agreement between Quebec and Yukon was signed in October 2004.
The renewed agreement covers key sectors of French language services in the areas of education, early childhood, arts and culture, youth, economy, health and social services.
"This initiative will help to further develop French language services in Yukon through the exchange of information and sharing of expertise among members of the community, students and public sector employees of both governments," Hart added.
