Premier Appoints Deputy Minister of Tourism and Culture

WHITEHORSE - Premier Dennis Fentie announced today that Brian Alexander has been appointed to the position of Deputy Minister for the Department of Tourism and Culture, effective October 1, 2008.

Mr. Alexander's career includes 33 years of experience at all levels of the New Brunswick public service including seven years as a deputy minister. A former deputy minister of Tourism and Parks, Mr. Alexander's range of experience includes serving as a deputy minister of Public Safety and assistant deputy minister of Law Enforcement in New Brunswick.

He holds an undergraduate degree in science from the University of New Brunswick and a Masters degree in Public Administration from Queens University. Having visited every Canadian province and territory and as a member of the Canadian Tourism Commission, he is well versed in the broader priorities and objectives of the Canadian tourism industry.

"Mr. Alexander brings a wealth of public sector experience to this position," Premier Fentie said. "His strong leadership and communications skills coupled with his in-depth knowledge will aid in creating a vibrant Yukon tourism industry and a Yukon that is larger than life."

Alexander succeeds Sally Sheppard, who has been with the Department of Tourism and Culture for five years and will retire on September 30, 2008.
