Arts Fund Supporting Twelve Yukon Arts and Cultural Projects

WHITEHORSE - The Arts Fund is contributing $124,300 towards twelve projects to further develop the arts in Yukon, Minister of Tourism and Culture Elaine Taylor announced today.

"Arts and culture play a significant role in developing an individual's potential as well as contributing to community development," Taylor said. "The Yukon government is pleased to provide funding for these arts and cultural projects."

The Arts Fund is an applicant-driven funding program that supports artists and communities in creative endeavours such as festivals, events, training, and art creation in all forms.

One of the groups to receive funding is the North Klondyke Highway Music Collaboration for the 2008-09 Klondike Fiddle School project, which provide a series of music lessons and concerts between October 2008 and March 2009 in communities along the Klondike Highway.

"We're thrilled to receive news that the Arts Fund will support us again," Board Member Peter Menzies said. "We've been working hard at music education in the North Klondike Highway communities and schools. We could not have accomplished what we've done without the support of the Arts Fund. Mashi cho, merci and thank-you."

The next deadline for Arts Fund applications is September 15, 2008. Applicants are encouraged to consult the Fund Administrator before applying. Telephone: (867) 667–3535, toll free at 1-800-661-0408 ext. 3535. Email: artsfund@gov.yk.ca
