Whitehorse – Minister of Community Services Archie Lang and Whitehorse Mayor Bev Buckway have signed subdivision planning agreements to bring residential lots to market.
New lots will be completed in the Whistle Bend subdivision on the Porter Creek Bench and in Arkell Phase 3.
“The City and the Yukon government are committed to making building lots available to the public as quickly as possible,” Lang said. “The signing of the agreements for these two subdivisions is an exciting step in moving forward with the developments.”
The agreements allow for a continued innovative and collaborative approach to sustainable subdivision planning. The City will assume the lead role for planning, public consultation, environmental screening, zoning and subdivision approval for the project. The Yukon government will be responsible for engineering and construction and for land lotteries to sell lots to the public.
“I am very excited about the signing of these two agreements which will allow us to move forward with developing two new subdivisions within the City of Whitehorse,” Buckway said. “Between these two subdivisions, we will be making available a total of 532 residential building lots in the City within the next four years.”
Completion of phase two of the Whistle Bend subdivision is anticipated by 2012 and will provide 400 residential building lots. Completion of phase three of Arkell subdivision is anticipated in 2009 and will provide 132 lots.
