Fentie and Kenyon to Attend Pacific Northwest Region Summit

WHITEHORSE – Premier Dennis Fentie and Economic Development Minister Jim Kenyon are looking forward to networking and partnering opportunities at the 18th Annual Pacific Northwest Economic Region (PNWER) Summit in Vancouver next week.

“Partnerships cultivated by PNWER encourage growth and understanding between our jurisdictions and contribute to ensuring the best possible future for the region,” Fentie said. “Whether we are discussing economic opportunities, trade, energy, the environment or security, we come away with a common understanding of the issues and the will to work together.”

This year’s conference is themed Global Challenges, Regional Solutions through Excellence, Innovation and Leadership and takes place July 20–24 at the Westin Bayshore Hotel.

Fentie is scheduled to deliver a keynote address along with other speakers including British Columbia Premier Gordon Campbell, Canada’s Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day and United States Ambassador to Canada David Wilkins.

The four-day program also includes daily meetings of the PNWER Executive Committee and sessions addressing topics ranging from cross-border trade issues to tourism and the 2010 Olympics.

“Yukon has been a member of PNWER since 1994,” Kenyon added. “Through this forum, we continue to foster economic well-being and strive to increase the quality of life for all citizens of the Pacific Northwest region.”

PNWER is a regional U.S.-Canadian forum dedicated to encouraging global economic competitiveness and preserving the Pacific Northwest’s natural environment.
