Yukon Government Helps Support New Centre In Old Crow

OLD CROW – Minister of Tourism and Culture Elaine Taylor congratulates and offers ongoing support to the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation in Old Crow as they officially open the doors today at the John Tizya Centre.

“This region of Yukon is rich in a multitude of areas, from the evidence of the last great Ice Age to the migrating Porcupine Caribou herd to the deep culture and traditions of the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation,” Taylor said.

The Yukon government’s departments of Tourism and Culture and Environment were pleased to provide $120,000 to the Vuntut Development Corporation for exhibit planning and development for the centre.

“The John Tizya Centre has been designed as a multi-use facility that will enhance the educational opportunities for visitors and community members alike,” Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation Chief Joe Linklater said. “We are extremely excited to realize the vision of having our own building to display our history and the history of our land.”

Taylor will be travelling to Old Crow on July 15 for the opening of the John Tizya Centre.
