Government Awards Contract for Correctional Centre
WHITEHORSE - Highways and Public Works Minister Archie Lang and Justice Minister Marian C. Horne are pleased to announce that a contract to provide construction management services for the new Correctional Centre has been awarded to Dominion-Kwanlin Dun Joint Venture. The new facility will replace the existing Whitehorse Correctional Centre on the same site.
"There will be opportunities for direct employment, training and business development over the course of this project," Lang said.
Horne said: "I am very pleased to announce this significant milestone of the construction management contract award so we can move forward with planning our new Correctional Centre with programs and services designed to bring health, hope and healing for offenders and their communities."
Dominion Construction and Kwanlin Dun First Nation have negotiated a partnership approach to provide services for the design and construction of the new facility. They will share and exchange construction management procurement expertise and local and cultural knowledge.
Construction management provides opportunities to accelerate project schedules and group trade contracts into smaller packages on which Yukon businesses can bid. The Business Incentive Policy will enable qualifying contractors to receive rebates for using Yukon labour, apprentices, materials and manufactured products.
The value of the work required is $2,690,000. The design is currently underway with site work slated to commence this fall.
