Yukon Government Seeks Feedback on Energy Strategy
WHITEHORSE - Energy, Mines and Resources Minister Archie Lang is encouraging Yukoners to provide feedback on energy use and production in the territory.
"We are creating a big picture vision for energy in the Yukon and we want Yukoners to be involved in shaping our energy future," Lang said. "We want to ensure that all people interested have the opportunity to provide feedback on the draft Energy Strategy for Yukon."
The draft strategy was developed over the last year. It is based on background research on the energy sector followed by a public workshop in November 2007 where participants identified their priorities on energy issues in the territory.
Consultation on the draft strategy began on May 12 and has included information sessions, meetings in many communities and an open house.
"Energy affects all of us," said Minister Lang. "With climate change, rising fuel costs and new innovations in energy efficiency and conservation, Yukon is poised to make some significant choices with our energy strategy."
The strategy sets high level priorities for how the government will manage energy resources and programs. It examines how to meet the energy needs of the territory and also considers how to balance economic and environmental objectives for the development and use of energy resources.
