2008 Premier's Award of Excellence Nominees Announced

WHITEHORSE – The 2008 Premier’s Award of Excellence individual and team nominees were announced today at the National Public Service Week barbecue in Whitehorse held in recognition of Yukon government employees.

“The employees nominated for this year’s award exemplify the professionalism and dedication that is a credit to the Yukon public service,” Premier Dennis Fentie said.

All Yukon government employees are eligible for the award. This year there were 10 individual and seven team nominations.

Names of award recipients, chosen by the Premier’s Award of Excellence Selection Committee, will be announced in the fall. Committee members include: Bonnie Donnelly, chair; Jonathan Parker, vice-chair; Catherine Simpson, past chair; Dennis Cooley; Craig Shippey; Jon Bowen; Phil Treusch; Debra Thibodeau; Val Stehelin; Liz McKee from within government and Adeline Webber as the public representative on the committee. Jennifer Morrison is the Awards and Recognition Assistant.

The Premier’s Award of Excellence was first presented in 2005.

  • Grant Abbott – Energy, Mines and Resources;
  • Cathy Deacon – Health and Social Services;
  • Cindy Densmore – Health and Social Services;
  • Marie Fast – Health and Social Services;
  • Peter Huber – Health and Social Services;
  • Donna Pendziwol – Health and Social Services;
  • Judith Renwick – Justice; 
  • Anne Savoie – French Language Services;
  • Kirstie Simpson – Energy, Mines and Resources; and
  • Debra Thibodeau – Highways and Public Works.

The 2008 Premier’s Award of Excellence nominees in the team category include:

  • The ECO Protocol team (with team members from the Executive Council Office, Economic Development and Yukon Workers’ Compensation Health and Safety Board);
  • Johnson’s Crossing Metal Site Clean-up team (with team members from Energy, Mines and Resources, Environment, and Highways and Public Works);
  • Marsh Lake Flood Response Incident Management team (with team members from Community Services and Highways and Public Works);
  • the Securities Legislative Reform team (with team members from Community Services and Justice);
  • the Critical Impact, Advanced Education team from the Department of Education; 
  • the Davidson-Sheldon team from the Department of Education;
  • the Transportation Unit team from Highways and Public Works; and
  • the Adult Probation team from Justice.
