Spring 2008 Advanced Artist Award Recipients Announced
WHITEHORSE - Minister of Tourism and Culture Elaine Taylor announced 13 Yukon artists will share $40,000 in Advanced Artist Awards.
"Yukon government is pleased to fund the ongoing development of artists who have specialized training and who desire to further improve and expand their level of artistic expression," Taylor said. "The role and value of the arts in the community is central to the creation of a balanced and thriving quality of life for all Yukoners."
The Advanced Artist Award program is funded by Lotteries Yukon and is administered by the Department of Tourism and Culture.
Artist Moira Sauer received funding for advanced study with internationally renowned puppet master, Eric Bass, towards the creation of a new theatre piece.
"Receiving the Advanced Artist Award will enable me to study, train and create with one of the world's top puppet masters for a series of weeks," said Sauer. "I will then begin the writing process for a sequel to my puppet play Dirty Life.
"This award is essential for my growth as a professional artist. Isolation in the North requires an advanced artist to seek further training and growth from other parts of the world."
