Yukon Participates in National Project on Youth Resilience
WHITEHORSE – Yukon is participating in the 2008 National Dialogue on Resilience in Youth, Education Minister Patrick Rouble announced.
“The Department of Education is pleased to be leading Yukon’s participation in this important national dialogue,” Rouble said. “By exploring how schools and other organizations can improve resilience in youth, we are working to help all young people achieve success.”
The 2008 National Dialogue on Resilience in Youth is aimed at understanding why some children, in spite of immense challenges, enjoy successful lives. The initiative will also identify characteristics of resilient children and review whether systems can be structured to support resilience.
Yukon is holding roundtable discussions today around the theme ‘Fostering Resilience in Times of Transition’. Participants include youth, parents, Council of Yukon First Nations, community members, some of the Sundog Carving Program youth, and representatives in the Departments of Health and Social Services, Justice, Education.
The National Dialogue on Resilience in Youth will culminate in a national conference in Winnipeg in November 2008. Reports from all the regional roundtables will be shared, and the proceedings in November will also be made available to the public.
