Premier Appoints Deputy Minister of Economic Development

WHITEHORSE – Premier Dennis Fentie announced today that Harvey Brooks has been appointed to the position of Economic Development Deputy Minister, effective July 17, 2008.

Dr. Brooks’ career has focused on economic development, encompassing policy, research, management consulting and management and operations.  A former deputy minister of Saskatchewan Agriculture and Food, he has also served that jurisdiction’s government as deputy minister in Government Relations, Highways and Transportation, and Rural Revitalization.

He has a Ph.D. in Economics from Iowa State University, as well as a Master’s degree from the University of Saskatchewan.

“Dr. Brooks brings a significant amount of public and private sector experience to this position,” Fentie said. “He has experience in rural revitalization and cross-departmental approaches to economic development, as well as national and international initiatives.”

Brooks succeeds Eugene Lysy, who retired earlier this year.
