WHITEHORSE – Energy, Mines and Resources Minister Archie Lang today announced Yukon government support for the City of Whitehorse Arkell expansion by approving the Arkell Phase 3 Planning Agreement with the City and $1,548,000 to move the project forward to the next stage of development.
“Once the City of Whitehorse approves the concept plan, Community Services will proceed with the detailed engineering design, legal survey, clearing and grubbing and site pre-grading for the new subdivision,” Lang said.
Under the development protocol between the Yukon government and the City of Whitehorse, the city assumes the lead role on planning for both city-owned and Yukon government-owned developments.
City of Whitehorse conducted a successful green space plebiscite on May 31, 2007 for the Arkell expansion, and the Official Community Plan (OCP) amendment was approved by city council in September 2007.
“Subdivision planning is well underway for approximately 132 lots and we want to support the development protocol by being ready to respond to the city’s process and decision," Lang said.
Subject to the approval process, lots could be available for sale in the Arkell expansion area by fall 2009.
