Journey Far Carver Program Funding Continued
WHITEHORSE –– The Yukon government will seek approval in the legislature for $245,000 in the 2008-09 fiscal year toward the continuation of the Journey Far Carver program, Justice Minister Marian C. Horne announced today.
The program provides instruction in advanced carving and marketing the product, paving the way for successful self-employment.
“This program has been well received by youth in the First Nations community,” Horne said. “It is an example of a successful program which provides an opportunity to learn a marketable trade.”
The Journey Far Carver Project combines training and wellness to support 10 participants in becoming self sufficient in their communities and achieving a better quality of life.
This is a unique made-in-Yukon intervention program that offers a second chance to participants who may have been unable to find success in a classroom or job, or may have had challenges with such issues as substance abuse, family dysfunction, unemployment and criminal involvement.
