Yukon Opportunities Presented to Japanese Business Community

Whitehorse – Yukon investment and business opportunities were highlighted at an event organized with the Consulate General of Japan in Vancouver.  Premier Dennis Fentie, joined by Minister of Tourism Elaine Taylor and Minister of Economic Development Jim Kenyon hosted members of the Japanese business community at the event held Jan. 30 in Vancouver.

“It was a great pleasure to again meet Consulate General Mr. Seiichi Otsuka and to address members of the Vancouver Japanese business community,” Fentie said. “This event is part of our ongoing efforts to attract new investment capital that support the continued growth of Yukon’s economy.”

Organized jointly with the Consulate General of Japan in Vancouver, the event brought together members of the Japanese business community, with government officials and representatives from a number of Yukon companies in Vancouver attending the Mineral Exploration Roundup conference.

“Yukon is a beautiful place with a wonderful historical legacy,” Consulate General Otsuka said. “But with the information presented by the Yukon government I am hopeful that the Japanese business community will now see that Yukon is also a place with many interesting investment opportunities.

The Consulate General of Japan at Vancouver was established in 1889 as the first Japanese governmental office in Canada and serves the jurisdictions of British Columbia and Yukon.

Highlighting small business potential and investment opportunities in Yukon’s mineral and tourism sectors the event featured a presentation session and an opportunity for Japanese companies to meet Yukon business leaders and government officials.

The Government of Yukon works with the Yukon business community, First Nations, and other governments to support business development, trade and investment opportunities, and partnerships for the development of the Yukon economy.
