Yukon Amending Small Claims Court Act Regulations

WHITEHORSE – The Yukon government is taking steps to modernize the small claims court process and is consulting with Yukoners on how to best amend regulations to the Small Claims Court Act.

“The Small Claims Court Act regulations have not been updated in 12 years,” Justice Minister Marian C. Horne said. “It is necessary that the business and legal communities, judiciary and those who represent themselves in Small Claims Court are consulted to ensure the regulations reflect the will of Yukoners.”

Amendments to the act came into effect in 2006, but the regulations that support the act have yet to be updated.

The Small Claims Court Act regulations can be viewed on the Yukon government’s website and the public is invited to submit comments to the Department of Justice Policy and Communications Unit.

The consultation process will conclude Feb. 15 with the regulations targeted for completion next fall.
