Fentie to Discuss Economic Issues with Prime Minister, Premiers
WHITEHORSE – Premier Dennis Fentie is anticipating productive discussions with Prime Minister Stephen Harper following meetings with his territorial and provincial colleagues in Ottawa.
Northern premiers are meeting early Jan. 11, and then the Council of the Federation is meeting that afternoon, concluding with the First Ministers’ meeting at 24 Sussex that evening.
"Meetings with first ministers are the best way to discuss national issues prior to decisions being made which may ultimately impact Yukon," Fentie said. "Respectful and meaningful working relationships with national colleagues are absolutely essential if we want to make progress on improving the lives of Yukoners."
The agenda for the First Ministers’ meeting will have an economic focus, with the high dollar value and labour force issues at the forefront of intended discussions. Other agenda items include federal spending power and Senate reform.
