Arts Fund Supports 18 Arts and Culture Projects
WHITEHORSE – Minister of Tourism and Culture Elaine Taylor announced today that 18 arts and cultural projects will share $189,050 provided through the Arts Fund.
"The Arts Fund continues to provide support to worthy artistic projects designed to benefit communities throughout Yukon," Taylor said.
The Yukon Council on disABILITY is one of the current recipients. The organization was awarded $16,000 in support of CP Salon – Access to the Arts project. A series of music-driven theatre pieces and workshops will be performed by a trio of classically trained artists with disabilities who challenge "able-centric" notions within the performing arts.
"On behalf of the Yukon Council on disABILITY, we appreciate the support of the Department of Tourism and Culture in assisting us to turn disabilities into abilities," Kim Hague, Executive Director of the Yukon Council on disABILITY, said. "The funding will aid us in providing quality services and promoting social and economic independence for people with disabilities, and help us to fulfill part of our mandate to educate, inform and give a voice so that barriers become transparent."
The Arts Fund is an applicant-driven funding program that supports artists and communities in creative endeavors such as festivals, events, training, touring and art creation in all forms. The fund is adjudicated in an arms-length process four times a year by the Yukon Arts Advisory Council.
The next deadline for Arts Fund applications is December 15, 2007. Applicants are encouraged to consult with the program officer before applying by telephoning 667-3535 or emailing artsfund@gov.yk.ca.
