Yukon Filmed Movie Hits Store Shelves
WHITEHORSE - Yukon's Film & Sound Commission is pleased to announce the DVD release of Whisper, a supernatural thriller which used Whitehorse as a shooting location. The movie stars Josh Holloway (Lost) and Sarah Wayne Callies (Prison Break) and is now available at Yukon movie rental stores.
"Yukon's reputation as a filming destination is growing," Economic Development Minister Jim Kenyon said. "The territory's landscape, climate, and skilled crew make it an ideal filming location, particularly when considering the competitive rebate program available through the Film & Sound Commission."
During six days of filming Whisper Production Inc. spent $264,100 in Yukon. Of that, $49,727 went to wages and $214,373 to procuring goods from local businesses.
Jessica Hall was one of 42 Yukoners hired to work on Whisper in 2005. She coordinated the production during their Whitehorse shoot and continues to work in Yukon's film industry.
"It was fun work," Hall said. "The crew they brought with them was very professional and knew how to do their jobs. I enjoyed working with the whole team. I'll definitely have to rent the movie."
Yukon's Film & Sound Commission Film Location Incentive contributed $29,404 to this film. This incentive program supports films in Yukon by reimbursing them for up to 35 per cent of wages paid to Yukon residents and offering travel rebates.
The Film & Sound Commission, a branch of the Department of Economic Development, works to support the continued growth and development of Yukon's film and sound recording industries. Information on the Film & Sound Commission funding programs is available at www.reelyukon.com.
Whisper was released in Canada on November 27, 2007. For more information about this movie, go to www.whispermovie.com.
