Justice Puts Moratorium on use of Tasers at WCC

Yukon's Department of Justice announced today that a moratorium on the use of Conducted Energy Weapons (TASERS) has been put in place at Whitehorse Correctional Centre, effective immediately.

This announcement was made in light of recent fatalities in other jurisdictions involving the use of Conducted Energy Weapons.

The moratorium will remain in effect until a review of the appropriate use and affects of Conducted Energy Weapons is carried-out by Yukon Justice. This review will be informed by various reviews undertaken in other jurisdictions.
