Health Bursary Programs Supporting Five New Students
WHITEHORSE – Students in nutritional science, dental therapy, pharmacy and practical nursing will benefit from financial assistance through the Health Profession Education Bursary this year.
Health and Social Services Minister Brad Cathers today announced the names of the five Yukon students who have been granted education bursaries to help with the cost of post-secondary education in health-related fields.
The five recipients of the Health Profession Education Bursary are all entering their first year of university. Naomi Brault is in first year Nutritional Science at McGill University; Kristina Curial is in first year Nutrition and Food Science at the University of Alberta; Jennifer Kay starts her first year of Dental Therapy at the First Nations University of Canada; Jody Power is entering first year of Licensed Practical Nursing at Norquest College, and Kristin Tomlin is in first year, Pharmacy, at the University of Alberta. Seven students in total are currently supported through the Health Profession Education Bursary.
"I am pleased that we can help these young women further their education in areas that provide health services," Cathers said. "We are fortunate that so many of our young people are choosing the health field for their future careers."
The Health Profession Education Bursary was established last year as part of the Yukon government’s new Health Human Resources Strategy.
