Film Infrastructure Feasibility Study Released
WHITHORSE- The Government of Yukon has announced the release of the draft report, Phase I - Film Infrastructure Feasibility Study. The Phase I report is the first part of a broader study to ascertain the economic viability of covered space for filming, a film studio or other film infrastructure for Whitehorse.
"This study is part of the Yukon Film & Sound Commission’s efforts to support the continued growth of Yukon’s film industry," Economic Development Minister Jim Kenyon said. "Working with Yukon’s film industry to thoroughly explore and examine a variety of film infrastructure options will ensure that the industry moves forward in the best way possible."
The Phase I - Film Infrastructure Feasibility Study looks at market opportunities and potential demand for filming facilities in Yukon. Future phases of the study will look at financial viability and consider the overall suitability of potential infrastructure projects.
Funded by the Department of Economic Development, Yukon Film & Sound Commission, the initiative is led by a steering committee with representatives from the Yukon film industry, City of Whitehorse and the Northern Film and Video Industry Association. The study is being conducted by Economic Research Associates of Los Angeles, California at a cost of approximately $55,000 for all phases.
