Filmmakers Fund Supports Six Yukon Projects

WHITEHORSE - Economic Development Minister Jim Kenyon announces six Yukon filmmakers have been awarded Filmmakers Fund grants.

"Funding is available to support filmmakers at various stages of their projects," Kenyon said. "The government is committed to providing ongoing support to Yukon filmmakers as they pursue careers in this industry."

David Hamelin received a $5,000 grant to support the development of his film project The Clearing.

"I'm in the process of developing a horror screen-play set in the Yukon," Hamelin said. "The fund has helped aid in the development of this project which is an idea I've had for a while and it’s only just recently been able to manifest itself on to paper."

Richard Lawrence also received support from Filmmakers Fund. His project, Smallfilm, is in the second phase of post-production.

"The Yukon Filmmakers Fund made it possible to complete post production sound," Lawrence said. "This support from Yukon Economic Development, along with our own investment, ensured the completion of a professional product that is now being promoted to festivals and audiences worldwide."

The Filmmakers Fund supports Yukon producers in the creation of viable careers and businesses. It is awarded twice a year, with applications deadlines on December 1 and June 1. The applications are reviewed by a jury of film-industry peers, using established criteria focused on projects that demonstrate a likelihood of success.
