Western Premiers Gather In Nunavut

WHITEHORSE - Premier Dennis Fentie will meet with northern and western premiers at the 2007 Western Premiers' Conference in Iqaluit, Nunavut on July 4-6.

"We have a full slate of agenda items, including components of the Northern Vision which will form the basis for discussion on such issues as climate change adaptation, Arctic sovereignty, and building sustainable communities," Fentie said.

Fentie will join premiers from the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia for the meeting.  Nunavut Premier Paul Okalik will host and chair the conference.

Yukon will co-lead an agenda item on Adapting to Climate Change.

"The Western Premiers' Conference provides Yukon the opportunity to strengthen relationships with other jurisdictions and address areas of common interest or concern," Fentie added. "I look forward to the opportunity to network with my fellow premiers."
