WHITEHORSE - Premier Dennis Fentie announced today that Whitehorse resident Mike Johnson has been appointed to the position of Deputy Minister of the Department of Highways and Public Works.
Johnson graduated from Queen's University in 1976 with a civil engineering degree. He previously worked for the Yukon government as director of the Transportation Maintenance branch from 1991 to 1996.
With over 20 years of engineering construction management experience in the private sector, Johnson has worked in highway maintenance, industrial and commercial construction, and has been involved in joint venture negotiations with First Nation development corporations.
"Mr. Johnson was selected from over 50 applicants by an interview panel with government and community representation," Fentie said. "I welcome him back to the Yukon public service."
Johnson's appointment takes effect July 16.
"As Mr. Johnson joins the Highways and Public Works team, I want to thank Janet Mann for her professionalism and leadership as Acting Deputy Minister for the department over the past few months," Fentie added. "I commend her for a job well done."
