Governor General To Visit Yukon

WHITEHORSE - Premier Dennis Fentie will have the honour of hosting Their Excellencies, the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, and Mr. Jean-Daniel Lafond, at a formal dinner on June 17 at the Yukon Convention Centre.

This event will be held during the Their Excellencies' first official visit to Yukon beginning on June 17 and lasting five days.  The Yukon visit will be the 13th and final official visit by the Governor General to each province and territory in Canada.

"We are pleased to welcome Their Excellencies to our territory.  It is a particularly special time to be in northern Canada as we enjoy the long summer days.  I'm certain that Yukoners will join with me in wishing our distinguished visitors a most enjoyable stay," Fentie said.

June 17 will be a memorable day for new Canadians, marked by a swearing-in ceremony presided over by the Governor General of Canada.

In addition to participating in a number of scheduled events to be held in Whitehorse, including National Aboriginal Day on June 21, Their Excellencies will visit Dawson City and Kluane National Park at Haines Junction.
