Yukoners Can Now Apply Online For Student Financial Assistance
WHITEHORSE - Minister of Education Patrick Rouble is pleased to announce the launch of a new online financial assistance service for Yukon post-secondary students.
"The Government of Yukon is pleased to support students in their pursuit of post-secondary education and training," Minister Rouble said."This new online financial assistance application service will provide students with a better, more efficient way to apply for the funds they need to complete their studies. Students will also be able to check the status of their financial assistance applications anytime, anywhere on the web."
In order to design and implement the online service, the Government of Yukon contributed $85,000 to the project and the Government of Canada contributed $146,000.
In the 2006-07 school year, 1,578 applications for various funding sources were approved for 1,064 Yukon students. Students attended 138 post-secondary institutions in the Yukon, throughout the country and around the world.
For 2007-08, the Department of Education has allocated $4.2 million dollars for the Yukon Grant and Student Training Allowance program. This includes an annual indexing amount of $102,000.
"The Department of Education is pleased to provide this new service to Yukon post-secondary students," Rouble said. Every day we work to enhance transitions between different levels of education, training and the world of work, and the online student financial assistance option is a big part of that commitment."
