Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in First Nation Receives Contribution To Increase Child Care Spaces
WHITEHORSE - Health and Social Services Minister Brad Cathers today announced a contribution of $300,000 to Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in First Nation to improve and expand child care services in Dawson City.
"This contribution will assist the First Nation in expanding its capacity to meet the growing need for quality child care in this rural Yukon community," Cathers said.
Klondike MLA Steve Nordick said he was pleased with today's announcement. "This funding will benefit the entire Dawson community. Child care in Dawson, as in other rural communities, is very important for working parents and I am glad to see that our government recognizes the needs of the rural child care community," Nordick said.
"Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in would like to thank MLA Steve Nordick and the Yukon Government for investing in the future of the Tr'ondëk Hwëchin and Dawson City and for supporting the children of our nation and community. The commitment of these resources to the Tr'inke Zho Child Care Centre is a demonstration of the value First Nations, Yukoners and Canadians place on child care. This facility will accommodate up to 60 Children and employ 15 staff. The services provided will not only serve the citizens of Tr'ondëk, but also the broader community," Chief Darren Taylor said.
