Women's Directorate Announces New Funding For Women's Equality Work
WHITEHORSE - Elaine Taylor, minister responsible for the Women's Directorate, has announced a new women's equality fund specific for organizations carrying out equality work for women.
To meet the commitments of gender equality in Yukon, the Government of Yukon is responding to the needs expressed by women's organizations by making available new long-term sustainable funding of $175,000, subject to legislative approval. Non-government organizations can apply for up to $35,000 per year over three years.
“In Yukon, women's organizations work to address a range of women's equality issues including violence prevention, economic stability, education and skills advancement, poverty and safety," Taylor said. "We are pleased to provide long-term funding that will support important work towards advancing women's equality in the territory."
Areas that could be funded under this new program include: supporting services and programs; research and policy development; education and social action on women's equality issues; and supporting the development and capacity of women's organizations.
The new fund intake deadline is 4 p.m. on May 28. Funding applications are available at the Women's Directorate located at Suite #1 – 404 Hanson St. or at http://www.womensdirectorate.gov.yk.ca.
