Community Development Fund Supports Freedom Trails Therapeutic Riding Association

WHITEHORSE - Economic Development Minister Jim Kenyon announced today that the Community Development Fund has awarded $2,089 to support the Freedom Trails Therapeutic Riding Association.

The Freedom Trails Therapeutic Riding Association received funding from the Community Development Fund (CDF) to attend the Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association (CanTRA) spring conference. CanTRA is a registered charity that promotes challenge, achievement and empowerment for children and adults with disabilities through the use of horses.

"This is a terrific example of Yukoners making real efforts to care for each other," Kenyon said. "By providing funding to the Freedom Trails Therapeutic Riding Association, we are able to assist dedicated volunteers in their efforts to stay connected to the rest of Canada and to share information in support of the growth and development of people with disabilities."

Freedom Trails Therapeutic Riding Association aims to assist with improving the quality of life for children, teens, and adults with a disability, through a recreational and therapeutic horseback riding program.

"It's always good to step outside your box, to make new ties, and to participate in knowledge-sharing activities," Freedom Trails Therapeutic Riding Association Executive Director Judy Fortin said. "CDF allows our organization to embrace new ideas and apply innovative tools as a result of the workshops."

The Community Development Fund supports Yukon groups, associations, and organizations with funding for projects and events that create jobs, contribute to community well-being, and bring social and economic benefits to Yukon residents. The next CDF intake deadline for both Tier 1 (up to $20,000) and Tier 2 (between $20,001 and $75,000) funding is May 15.
