Premier Announces Appointment Of Finance Deputy Minister
WHITEHORSE - Premier Dennis Fentie has announced the appointment of David Hrycan as the new Deputy Minister of Finance in the Yukon government.
Hrycan began work with the Yukon government in 1987 as director of Accounting Services. In December 1996, he was appointed Assistant Deputy Minister, Financial Operations and Review Services also in the Department of Finance. He has served as acting deputy minister on a number of occasions.
"I am pleased that we were able to appoint from within the Yukon public service," the Premier said. "Mr. Hrycan has a sound knowledge of this organization as well as the education and experience required for this position."
Hrycan has a CMA designation and a commerce degree from the University of Alberta. Prior to 1987 he worked with the Northwest Territories government and in Alberta.
Hrycan's appointment is effective April 28. He is replacing Bruce McLennan, who is retiring at the end of April. McLennan began his career with the Yukon government in 1980. After leaving to work for the federal government, he returned to the Yukon public service in 1993.
"I want to take the opportunity to extend my thanks to Mr. McLennan for his contribution to the Government of Yukon," Fentie said. "During his tenure he has served as deputy minister of both the departments of Education and Health and Social Services, besides being the Deputy Minister of Finance. My Cabinet colleagues and I wish him well in his retirement.
