Yukon Premier Invited To Ottawa For Tabling Of Federal Budget
WHITEHORSE - Yukon Premier Dennis Fentie, Nunavut Premier Paul Okalik and Northwest Territories Premier Joseph Handley are in Ottawa at the invitation of the Minister of Finance, the Hon. Jim Flaherty. The three northern premiers will be in the House of Commons this afternoon to hear the delivery of the budget speech.
“The northern premiers will be watching closely to see what the federal budget holds with respect to territorial formula financing arrangements. We are looking for a return to a principles-based territorial formula financing,” Fentie said. “I am hopeful for a positive outcome that meets the needs of the North.”
While in Ottawa, the three northern premiers will also meet to discuss the Northern Premiers’ Conference, which is to be held in Whitehorse later this spring.
