Yukon’s Sound Industry Supported With Recording Program Awards

WHITEHORSE – Economic Development Minister Jim Kenyon has announced the awarding of $18,700 to four Yukon sound recording professionals.

"This support of Yukon sound recording professionals makes a significant contribution to the growth of the Yukon sound recording industry," Kenyon said. "The funds awarded support the development of the Yukon sound recording skills and assist in building the experience required for continued industry growth."

The purpose of the Yukon Sound Recording Program is to assist professionals in developing viable careers and businesses by making sound recordings in Yukon for broadcast and commercial release.

Kim Barlow was awarded $5,000 for a professional sound recording project.

"I am looking forward to the upcoming release of my CD titled Champ," roots/pop musician Kim Barlow said. "This funding from the Yukon Film and Sound Commission helps my full-length recording project to come together at the start of a very busy year for me professionally."

Remy Rodden was awarded $1,700 for the professional demo recording Still the Phoenix Flies.

"This support will help me distribute my new material to a wider audience," musician Remy Rodden said. "A change from my past theme-based music for children, I am recording two original songs that will be included on a future full-length recording of new material."

The Yukon Sound Recording Program provides awards twice per year to eligible applicants whose projects best meet objectives of the program.
