Ibex Valley Fire Department Receives A New Fire Tanker
WHITEHORSE - On behalf of the Protective Services branch, Community Services Minister Glenn Hart has announced the delivery of a brand new $185,000 fire tanker truck to the Ibex Valley Fire Department.
Fire Chief Bob Atkinson of the Ibex Volunteer Fire Department can now retire the old 1978 pumper/tanker to make room for their new tanker. The new truck is equipped with a 300 horsepower diesel engine and a 1500 gallon fire tank. The tanker is designed to shuttle water to the fire, when piped water and fire hydrants are not available, and is also capable of pumping water directly onto a fire.
Golden Horn, Mount Lorne, Ibex Valley, Hootalinqua and the Marsh Lake Volunteer Fire Departments, in conjunction with the City of Whitehorse, have all signed a Mutual Aid Agreement. This confirms that when any one fire station requires assistance, other fire departments can be called on for help.
"We are all aware of the challenges faced by our fire fighters, especially in the winter months, to supply their fire engines with the necessary water to fight fires. The addition of this new tanker to the Ibex Valley Fire Hall is a welcomed asset for our fire fighters in their efforts to maintain fire safety in the Ibex district and to assist other communities if needed," Hart said.
This tanker is the first of two new tanker trucks to be delivered this year. A second tanker truck, which is scheduled for delivery to the Tagish Volunteer Fire Department, is planned for later this year.
