Yukon Government Puts $41,790 Into Community Youth Projects

WHITEHORSE - Premier Dennis Fentie has announced $41,790 in grants from the Youth Investment Fund to support 16 projects that will benefit Yukon youth.

The projects span the Yukon and cover a wide variety of youth centre activities, leadership training, after-school activities, physical activities, cultural events and workshops.

The successful projects were announced by the ministers of the fund's sponsoring departments: Premier Dennis Fentie, minister responsible for the Youth Directorate; Highways and Public Works Minister Archie Lang; Health and Social Services Minister Brad Cathers, Women's Directorate Minister Elaine Taylor; Justice Minister Marian Horne and Education Minister Patrick Rouble.

The Youth Investment Fund supports community-driven initiatives aimed at addressing the needs of Yukon youth. Many of the projects are designed to help youth susceptible to "at risk" behaviors or those who are considered to be "at risk".

Since the fund's inception in 1995, 381 projects have been funded. The next deadline for applications is April 1, 2007.
