Big White To Be Featured At Yukon International Film Festival

WHITEHORSE - The locally shot big-screen film, Big White, is coming soon to a film festival near you.

The dark comedy starring Robin Williams, Holly Hunter, Woody Harrelson and Whitehorse resident Eric Epstein was shot in the Yukon, in April 2004 and will be featured for a special screening at the Yukon International Film Festival, June 21 to 25 in Whitehorse.

The movie tells the sordid tale of a struggling travel agent in Alaska who finds a frozen body in a dumpster, and hopes to cash in on a fat insurance policy to treat his wife's illness.

"The Big White is an exciting addition to the festival," Yukon Film and Sound Commissioner Margarita Ramon said. "More than 200 Yukoners were employed in the making of this film and have a keen interest in seeing their work on the big screen."

"This production injected $1 million into the territory," Economic Development Minister Jim Kenyon added. "It's great to see it on the marquee for the festival."

John Schimmel, producer of the Big White, has also expressed an interest in attending the festival.

Festival organizers have begun to receive confirmation of national and international producers, broadcasters and media who will be attending and creating networking opportunities for Yukon filmmakers.
