Government Supports Cultural Projects Through Arts Fund
WHITEHORSE - Tourism and Culture Minister Elaine Taylor has announced that the Arts Fund is contributing $126,000 to 14 projects that address the creative development of arts in the Yukon.
"The Government of Yukon is pleased to provide an opportunity for arts organizations to showcase a variety of artistic disciplines that benefit our communities," Taylor said.
"These awards reflect excellence in performing and visual arts, film, music and dance, and offer Yukoners the opportunity to share in the artistic experience through the development of creative programming supported by the Arts Fund," she added.
The successful applicants include l'Association Franco-Yukonnaise who will receive $9,000 in support of Au Coeur du rayonnement artistique, a series of visual, literary and performing arts events.
La Société des Masques d'Or for Journée des Arts will obtain $12,500 for a theatre performance, workshops and a visual art display.
The Victoria Faulkner Women's Centre is awarded $5,000 for Hip Hop Superstars, a dance-based camp for young girls in Yukon communities.
The Yukon Association for Community Living will receive $4,000 for a parent retreat entitled Exploration of Artistic Expression.
Arts Fund applications are reviewed at arms length from government by the Yukon Arts Advisory Council. The council adjudicated 16 applications requesting more than $235,000 in funding for the June 2005 intake.
