Fentie To Discuss Infrastructure, Trade At Annual Meeting
WHITEHORSE - Premier Dennis Fentie is looking forward to positive discussions with other provincial and territorial premiers at the upcoming Council of the Federation annual meeting.
The meeting takes place in Banff, Alberta, August 10 to 12.
"There are several issues, including infrastructure, fiscal imbalance, energy and trade, that are of particular interest and importance for the Yukon," Fentie said. "I'm looking forward to getting together with all of my colleagues to develop constructive strategies for improving the lives of Canadians."
Premiers will focus their discussions on economic competitiveness, strengthening Canada's social fabric and improving the federation. Key issues include transportation and infrastructure, skills training and post-secondary education.
"Premiers are getting together to continue efforts to address issues that matter to Canadians - issues that cross provincial and territorial boundaries and allow us to expand on our partnerships and co-operative approaches," Fentie added.
Premiers will also meet with national aboriginal leaders before the Council of the Federation meeting in Calgary on August 9. These include representatives of the Assembly of First Nations, Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, Metis National Council, Congress of Aboriginal Peoples and the Native Women's Association of Canada.
