New Sound Recording Program Is Music To Industry's Ears
WHITEHORSE - Yukon sound recording professionals, studios and labels can now receive financial assistance from the Yukon government for in-Yukon recording expenses.
The new Sound Recording Program completes the promised suite of support programs available through the Yukon Film & Sound Commission and was developed in consultation with Music Yukon.
"The Yukon's music scene is a vibrant one," Economic Development Minister Jim Kenyon said. "This demonstrates our government's commitment to foster growth and success in our creative sound and film industries."
Funded by the Department of Economic Development and administered through the Yukon Film & Sound Commission, the program will reimburse 50% of specified costs to a maximum of $5,000 for professional sound recording costs. Professional demos are eligible up to $2,000 worth of assistance.
"The Yukon's sound recording industry has reached the next level of maturity," Yukon Film & Sound Commissioner Margarita Ramon said. "We are confident that this program will help singers, songwriters, studios, technicians, musicians and associations aspire to new heights."
The Yukon Film & Sound Commission seeks to provide training and employment opportunities for local residents, through its financial support of the recording industry, to further develop the cultural industries sector and to encourage a business focus among those in the Yukon music industry.
